I’m Maureen Walker, a mixed-media artist. I use a variety of methods to produce outcomes which express how I feel about my chosen subject and the context behind it. I produce limited edition hand-finished giclee prints of my own original artwork. More work goes into finishing these pieces than into the initial drawing. I like my images to have great contrast in colour as well as in tone. I enjoy experimentation with methods in order to achieve this. Each one of my pieces is unique despite being part of a series of prints. I produce no more that 10 prints from each drawing.
My preferred subject is figurative work. The human form comes in many shapes and sizes. I embrace the concept of difference between people, but also those things which unite us as human beings.
Creativity is a key part of my life. I have produced and gifted or sold a wide variety of work already. Although I’ve enjoyed drawing for as long as I can remember, I am ever on the lookout for opportunities to refine that skill. I believe that drawing underpins all art. It’s an essential tool for capturing an idea, refining it, and producing a finished work, but a drawing can also be a powerful outcome in itself.
“Drawing is like making an expressive gesture with the advantage of permanence.” Henri Matisse.
